CCA Committees

Committees are established to accomplish the work of the association, and the effectiveness of the entire association depends upon the productivity of its committees.  Steering committees, which are defined in the bylaws, have specific memberships and continuing assignments from year to year.  Standing committees are designated to make policy recommendations to the board, to undertake long-term assignments, and to carry out the work of the association.  Task forces and other special committees are formed by the chairperson, in consultation with the board or executive committee, to undertake specific charges and usually remain active only one to three years.

Associations are built on a system of committee actions, linking the association with the attitudes and the real world of its members.  Committees represent, involve and serve members; as well as provide an important training ground for future leaders.  Committees are an effective workforce for the association—they ensure group participation in problem solving and provide a forum for the many interests within the association.

Effective committees unify, represent, motivate, coordinate, consolidate and communicate.  They function best when their members are selected appropriately and they have a clearly defined mission, strong leadership and competent staff.
