Senator Isgar Joins CCA’s Capitol Conversations

ARVADA, Colo. March 3, 2009 – The Colorado Cattlemen’s Association (CCA) has been hosting a bi-weekly conference call to inform beef producers of legislative activities.  The conference calls take place the second and fourth Thursday of each month through April 24th. We will also hold a call on May 7th as a final wrap-up to the session.

On our second call, Senator James Isgar (D-Dist. 6) joined us to discuss the budget, a transportation bill, SB158, SB229, and water bills.

Senator Isgar discussed SB158 in detail stating, “We had wanted to address confidentiality as far as wildlife issues whenever somebody comes in to look at habitat or species on private lands. We’re concerned on where that information could end up.” He continued by saying, “It’s really important that we are addressing that confidentiality.”

CCA has a daily presence at the capitol during the legislative session to ensure that beef producers are represented on issues important to their business and livelihood. CCA tracks and actively works on any and all proposed legislation that affects the beef cattle industry, property rights, and our members’ ways of life.

There are a number of bills currently in the house and senate that CCA is closely monitoring on behalf of its members, please visit www.coloradocattle.org to see our full Legislative Tracking list.  You can also visit our CapWiz site, http://capwiz.com/beefusa/co/home/, to contact your representative about current legislation and see action alerts CCA is issuing.

Please join us for the third Capitol Conversation on Thursday, March 12, 2009 at noon.  Once again we will be inviting a number of legislators to join the call to discuss bills they are sponsoring.  Participants are asked to call (218) 844-8230 and enter access code 131855# (long distance charges may apply).

Colorado Cattlemen’s Association (CCA) is the state’s only nonprofit trade organization exclusively representing Colorado’s cattle producers.  Founded in 1867, CCA is the nation’s oldest state cattlemen’s association.
